The CBD vs. THC difference

difference between CBD and THC

Cannabidiol (CBD) is being used by more and more people globally, including Hong Kong and Asia. Everybody wants to enjoy the benefits CBD can provide naturally. Nonetheless, there is a lot of confusion. Law-abiding citizens may even fear to consume illegal drugs when they use CBD to help with that nagging back pain or sleeplessness. THC is illegal in Hong Kong and has a range of different effects compared to CBD. Therefore, all SWISS FX oils are free of THC and completely legal to be sold and used in Hong Kong.

What is the difference between CBD and THC?

CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) are natural substances, so-called cannabinoids, which are derived from the female hemp plant. Humanity has cultivated hemp for thousands of years and our ancestors already knew of the benefits hemp could provide. Not only was were the hemp fibers used to produce clothes, ropes, and many other things, but the hemp itself was used as a medicine. There are ancient scriptures from Egypt and China proving it was used in those days to treat a multitude of symptoms.

Chemically, CBD and THC are similar but also have some important differences. THC for example is „psychoactive“. What does that mean? The American Cancer Institute provides a clear definition:

“A drug or other substance that affects how the brain works and causes changes in mood, awareness, thoughts, feelings, or behavior.”

Therefore, THC is classified as an illegal drug in most jurisdictions around the world, including Hong Kong.

CBD, on the other hand, is not psychoactive. By a lot of people it is used a solution to many common symptoms. You can enjoy the benefits of CBD without intoxicating yourself and getting in trouble with the law. When you consume CBD, you will stay fully functional, active, and aware. Nonetheless, be cautious since some people experience deep relaxation when consuming CBD, which may impair your ability as a driver or machine operator.

Does CBD contain THC?

Generally speaking, no. Please keep in mind that CBD nowadays is a professionally sold product and the brands have, of course, efficiency in mind. Therefore, the hemp, from which the CBD is extracted, is specifically cultivated to have a high concentration of CBD, while the (unwanted) THC concentration is extremely low. Today, China is the largest producer of industrial hemp. Of course, China does not intend to produce illegal substances but clean CBD.

Moreover, the extracted CBD is filtered and isolated. That way, there are only minimal traces or no THC at all left in common CBD products.

Keeping this in mind, it should be a good reminder to buy only quality CBD products. Lesser products are often cheaply made and not well filtered. That means, that they may contain certain dosages of THC which can bring you in trouble. Buying a quality product from a European producer helps to avoid these problems right from the start. In general, always ask for the laboratory analysis certificate of from the current product batch to verify if there is no THC detected.

What are the benefits of CBD oil?

One of the most known and impressive cases of CBD benefits is one of a young American girl called Charlotte Figi. Charlotte suffered from the so-called Dravet syndrome. This syndrome is a form of epilepsy and known to be resistant against the usual treatments. As Charlotte’s health kept deteriorating, her parents looked for other ways of help. They found the Stanley brothers in Colorado (USA), who grew hemp and decided to help Charlotte by growing a special, CBD-rich strain for her. They called this strain “Charlotte’s web”.

Charlotte took the CBD as oil and the results were remarkable. The number of her monthly seizures declined from 1.200 (!) to 3. Further successes followed and ever more parents wanted Charlotte’s web to help their children. This all was part of the CBD success story of course.
